Strategic Problem-Solving & Special Projects

Bring structure to complex business questions.

We help organizations investigate business challenges that span multiple functions, lack a clear starting point, or require a dedicated research effort. Our work begins by defining the question, reviewing available evidence, and establishing the decision the investigation must support. We develop a project-specific approach to identify underlying causes, evaluate alternatives, and determine a practical response. Each engagement has a defined scope, research plan, and set of deliverables.

Some questions cannot be resolved within a single function.

A division may underperform without an obvious explanation. Repeated attempts to resolve a problem may address its symptoms without establishing why it persists. An unfamiliar business requirement may involve several departments, with no single team holding the information or authority needed to respond.

We examine these challenges without assuming that the initial explanation is correct. This includes testing competing explanations, reconciling information from different teams, and identifying gaps that could affect the recommendation. Where an investigation requires specialist technical or professional input, we establish that requirement as part of the engagement.

Our work can include

  • Problem Definition & Project Scoping — Clarifying the business question, relevant constraints, and intended outcome, with agreed boundaries, responsibilities, and criteria for completing the investigation.
  • Targeted Research & Investigation — Gathering and assessing evidence through internal data analysis, stakeholder interviews, and external research, with methods selected for the question being examined.
  • Cross-Functional Diagnosis — Examining how commercial, operational, and organizational factors interact to identify underlying causes, conflicting priorities, and dependencies that isolated assessments may overlook.
  • Options Development & Evaluation — Developing possible responses and comparing their feasibility, costs, risks, and resource requirements, including the implications of maintaining existing arrangements.
  • Decision Support & Action Planning — Consolidating findings into a documented recommendation, with priorities, responsibilities, and any further testing required before implementation.

The outcome may be a diagnostic report, an assessment of alternatives, or a defined plan for testing a proposed response. Our work makes clear what has been established, which uncertainties remain, and what should happen next—without treating an untested assumption as a settled conclusion.
